"Nightingale" Debut and EP Release Show

floral3frontFiercely is here! Hard copies are on their way, and we're working hard on our set for Thursday's EP release show at Atwood's Tavern. Get your first listen of the full EP on Bandcamp today.

Fiercely is the culmination of a year-long project with bandmate, producer, and friend Nate Leavitt, comprised of 5 songs he hand-picked from my catalog and brought to life. It showcases the talents of many of my favorite music collaborators and friends from various Boston projects: Sam Spencer (Sera Del Fuego), Ned Gallacher (Nate Leavitt Band, Vic Firecracker, Helicopter Helicopter, Ad Frank & the Fast Easy Women), Stud Green (Humble Tripe, and a Girls Rock Camp co-volunteer), Dan Nicklin and Kelly Davis (OldJack). The project also gave me a chance to work with the hugely talented Erin Genett and Kelly Davidson, who are responsible for the amazing album artwork and photography, respectively.

Read Jed Gottlieb's Guestisted review of the EP and its newest single, "Nightingale". Then join us on Thursday, May 21, for our EP Release Show at Atwood's Tavern. I'll be joined by the EP band, plus Craig Small (Airport, Waltham). We've got a rocking set planned for you with old songs, new songs, some of my favorite covers, and even a duet with the tremendous Abbie Barrett, whose band will close out the night. We hope to see you there!

New Single: "Question" Premiered on Vanyaland

In the midst of one of the worst winters Boston's had, and in a month that always sends me into bouts of reflectiveness and nostalgia, producer Nate Leavitt and I offer up a piece of my own history, "Question (The Hardest Part)." Vanyaland premieres the track today, and Michael Marotta writes:

"Magen Tracy’s latest single, “Question,” is definitely not about the weather outside, but it’s a nice musical reminder to slow our rolls and not get caught up in the chaos around us. “I said this is the hardest part,” Tracy sings in the chorus. “We forget who we are and forget what we want. If feels wrong, but I guess it seems smart.”

Bo & Rachel's House Show #9 on February 21

Bo & Rachel Barringer (aka The Wrong Shapes) present their 9th House Show (henceforth to be know as a Salon) on Saturday, February 21: It's been a few months and more than a couple of our more cultured friends have asked us recently if we're still holding "Salons" at our place…(Bo scratches head, "Huh, 'Salon'? What ever could they mean?" He goes racing to the Googles…;) (From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia-)"A salon is a gathering of people under the roof of an inspiring host, held partly to amuse one another and partly to refine the taste and increase the knowledge of the participants through conversation. " Ah, I see…in the parlance of our more refined friends, "SALONS" mean "HOUSE SHOWS"…What a great idea-let's re-christen our monthly events… The 601 Boston Ave House Shows will henceforth be referred to as SALON (yeah, "Bo & Rachel's House Show" always sounded a bit pedestrian….) So, for our next SALON we are incredibly psyched to announce we will have the following performers: Amy Douglas of FEINTS When Particles Collide Drab Magen Tracy and your hosts, The Wrong Shapes set times TBA but performances will last from about 8PM till just before midnight…. More details on the Facebook Event.

Magen Tracy, Ginger Ibex at Lilypad

Sharon Crumrine (of classical-rock-instrument quartet Ginger Ibex) has been one of my oldest piano-rock peers and friends in Boston, dating back to bedroom recording sessions at 157 Highland in '07. We've talked for ages now about a show with our current projects, and a venue with a gorgeous piano to host it. The Lilypad in Inman Square gives us the perfect opportunity to do so this Friday, December 5, as Ginger Ibex and Magen Tracy & the Missed Connections team up for an early evening of piano-lounge-singer-songwriter-classical-rock. (Yes, it's a genre. Yes, I made it up.)

Keep Safe Boston Compilation, Available 11/11

"On Tuesday, November 11, Keep Safe Boston releases the Keep Safe Boston 2014 compilation to benefit Planned Parenthood. The 50 song pay-what-you can compilation features some of the biggest names in New England music, from up-and-coming acts to tried-and-true hometown heroes." Read more.

We're thrilled to include "Fiercely" in this collection alongside some of Boston's best and brightest, curated by Anngelle Wood of Boston Emissions. Since my collaboration with Nate Leavitt on the Fiercely EP originated 2 years ago during Anngelle's Summer Sessions, it's fitting that this compilation should be the first official release of the single. Even better, Parlour Bells debuts a new single, "Wetwear", on the album and will perform at the Benefit Concert at Brighton Music Hall on December 10. (Special props to Nate Leavitt for pulling double duty to finish up both this tracks for this release!)
